On Thursday, February 22nd, the first free demonstration day of the project “IESS – Innovative Agroecological Actions to Regenerate Soils by Producing Economic, Social, and Sustainable Impact” was held at the Passerini farm Close to Siena (Tuscany), focusing on cover crops. IESS is a project funded by the Rural Development Programme of the Tuscany Region and aims to quantify the economic, social, and environmental benefits of introducing agroecological practices in Tuscan farms.
During the morning, farmers and technicians visited the agricultural company, where experimentation on autumn-winter cover crops is underway through the sowing of non-commercial mixtures specifically prepared for the climatic and soil conditions of the farm.
The day was led by DEAFAL technical coordinator, Matteo Mancini.
The NNO Lorenzo Tramacere was invited to present the OPER8 project with a speech titled: “Cover Crops in the New National Action Plans to Promote Non-Chemical Weed Control: The Case of the OPER8 Project.
” The day was a stimulating moment of discussion on agroecological practices, with the sharing of very interesting experiences by the attending farmers”, says Lorenzo when summarizing the day.
